Success in Network Marketing is Simply a Numbers Game

If you were promised $1,000,000, without a shadow of a doubt, that it would be all yours – if you picked up the phone and called 10,000 people in the next year, and told them about a business opportunity – would you do it?

This is equal to calling 28 people per day, every single day, for one year. I think that there are a number of people who would jump at this chance. They would definitely be tested, because calling 28 people is easy to do — But calling another 28 people is easy not to do.

What is interesting to me, and I have no proof, but the business that you would generate after just 6 months of calling 28 people day in and day out – would probably be more than $1 Million dollars. Here’s why:

You would start getting good at talking to people. Your “closing” average would keep rising, as your confidence grew stronger. You would get more and more excited as you saw bigger and bigger results from your efforts. After a while, you might even want to call 50 people per day – or 100!

Network marketing, like any type of sales, is simply a numbers game. The more people you eventually impact with your message and showing you care for them, the more money you will start making. It is really as simple as that.

So why do so many people fail at network marketing? I think part of it is due to the fact that people refuse to leave their comfort zone. If they do leave it temporarily, and they get criticized or suffer rejection, they scurry back to safety in their mediocrity laden comfort zone.

But I think a bigger reason why 95% of people fail, they don’t have a clear-cut plan laid out for them as to how many people they need to contact, or some other clearly defined avenue that they can drive down without getting lost.

There are so many ways to make this a “numbers” game.  Maybe this will make it easier to understand. Here aresome examples:

  • Create a blog about Network Marketing and do a new blog post every day. Your new post needs to be relevant and hopefully educational, entertaining or enlightening.
  • Build lead generating landing pages with good email Aweber autoresponder follow-up.  Use split testing to optimize your landing page and split test how you are driving traffic to your Landing Page.
  • Forum marketing – helping out with great informative posts, and having your signature file point to your landing page URL or your blog.
  • Facebook advertising – many different ways to do this. But your end result is getting people inside your “sales funnel”.
  • PPC – Pay Per Click Google, Bing, and Yahoo advertising. I wouldn’t attempt this without a very clear understanding of Perry Marshall”s Definitive Guide to Google Adwords.  He teaches Split-Testing as a science.  I have this e-book of his, and he is by far the BEST there is in teaching PPC.
  • Video Marketing – shooting a Flip Video each day or doing a Screen Capture video of a “how to” strategy.  You will need to add your video to some written source, like a blog post, or a Squidoo lens. Be sure and submit your video to more than just You-Tube. You can use a free service like PixlePipe to submit your video to about 15 different sites. If you want a full blown video submitter, you might want to check out Traffic Geyser.
  • Article Marketing – writing a good compelling article each day and submitting it to the various article directories – especially Ezine Articles.com. If you want to know how to submit your article to 150 article directories at once,  I use Automatic Article Submitter. It does a great job.
  • The traditional method of calling people – usually after you run out of your warm market, you end up buying lead lists.

The whole end goal of all of these different “numbers game” methods is to lead all of these prospect into your sales funnel.  The very best sales funnel I know of is My Lead System Pro. Getting back to the opening scenario – $1 Million for 10,000 calls – take this same logic and apply it to the methods indicated above. In other words you may not know how many blog posts you need to do to earn a lot of money – but if you did at least one new post every day – I think after a year your blog would be really ROCKING! A new video every day for a year? Wow! A new article every day for a year? I think you get the picture. A year goes by pretty quick.

Just imagine what your network marketing business would be like if you just picked ONE of the methods listed above, and did it faithfully every day for the next year. Is this easy to do every day? Not necessarily. Is this easy not to do? Most definitely. This will take commitment and persistence. But what will the pay-off be like? WOW! You won’t know unless you try.

Why Did You Join Your MLM Business? So You Could Fail?

I was thinking today about all the people who are so anti-network marketing. They have an attitude against the whole industry. But I doubt seriously if they even know one small clue about what the MLM industry is all about.

Network marketing offers anybody a chance. It doesn’t matter what your background was like – whether you were born on the “other side” of the tracks, or were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Everybody has the same opportunity – the same chance to succeed or fail.

One of the big reasons that people quit or fail, is they don’t remember or keep in focus WHY they joined their Network Marketing business in the first place. Usually they have reasons like these:

  • Freedom from a job they hate
  • Wanting financial security, because their job isn’t providing this
  • Desiring to live life to the fullest – and have the funds to do so
  • Spend more time with my kids, spouse, parents, etc.
  • Get me out of the financial straights and debt that is drowning me
  • Satisfaction of calling my own shots, and being a winner
  • I want to be a millionaire by the time I’m 30./
  • I want to look myself in the mirror and smile, knowing I proved them all wrong.

Why did you join the ranks of the wanna-be-wealthy people – using MLM as your ticket? What was going through your brain and emotions when you realized you didn’t have to follow the loser path of all your loser friends and negative family?

One of the reasons people quit their MLM business is because there is a disconnect between what they really want from the business (why they joined in the first place) and the daily work involved that is required to build a successful business. You will be very inspired and be more motivated to excel in your business if you remind yourself every day why you initially made the decision to become involved.

What is your motivation? What kind of dreams will your business make possible? Whose lives will you be impacting and contributing to with your success? What is the vision you carry with you? How will your network marketing business impact your very life? What big plans are you seeking to accomplish?

To keep reminding yourself of these dreams, and staying connected with them takes commitment. Doing the daily activities to see your dreams become a reality takes commitment also. You will build habits that will make the difference between being just a dreamer or wishful thinker – and someone whose dreams come true because you take consistent and deliberate action.

How long do you keep on “keeping on”?  There is a sad truth that has shown consistently how many people quit right before they would have won. In other words, they do all this work, and success is right around the corner. But discouragement steps in and they quit. I suggest that you give your network marketing business at least a year. And make sure you have a good system you are tapped into, like My Lead System Pro.  Without a good system to show you how you can generate leads every day that WANT your kind of business – you probably won’t last more than 2 months in network marketing.

How to Become a Millionaire With Multilevel Network Marketing

For example, a system for creating leads. Another system for converting these leads into “sign-ups.” And possibly an additional system for maximizing your retention rate – people lasting beyond 63 days.

2. Action,  MASSIVE CONSISTENT ACTION! This should be implemented over a six month to 2 year interval. The activity I’m discussing is mainly prospecting. Calling the leads you’ve produced, phoning your warm market. Dialing your cold market.

There are other kinds of marketing also, such as postcards.  But no matter what it is it has to be massive and consistent. You will not be successful with this if you don’t have a really clearly defined “WHY” which propells you through the naysayers and rejection.

3. Rinse and Repeat. What I mean by this is review, analyze and get better. When you are signing up 30 people per month, don’t sit back and say “great.” Understand why you aren’t recruiting 40 people. Then 50. Continue pushing yourself to get much better.

These three success strategies will work. Chances are most people won’t have the guts to do this. That’s Okay. The Diamond’s circle is granted to those who constantly perform just what most people won’t ever do.

Why Do Most Network Marketers Fail?

42-15530900Network marketing is Simple, but doing the old way (i.e. cold calling people) is NOT easy.

Don’t kid yourself!

Let me explain my view of why network marketing is notorious for having a 95% or higher failure rate..

Have you ever heard of Occam’s razor?

It states that the simplest reason for a phenomenon is almost always the best. We’ll use this theory to show why more than 95% of network marketers fail.

Ready?

Most network marketers don’t succeed because what they are taught to build their business doesn’t work 95% of the time.

So we must ask the logical question, what are most new network marketers taught?

Well, it’s only fair to speak from my experience, and what I was taught was to buy and cold call leads.

Now, I’m not going to say this doesn’t work, but what I will say is that after seven months of cold calling leads for 2.5 hours a day with almost no success, this strategy doesn’t work for me.

To be honest, unless you’re a natural-born, super confident sales leader going into your network marketing business, you’ll more than likely have these same results.

Don’t get me wrong. Some people are very good at cold calling leads, but most people aren’t.

What happens to most people after they’ve spend thousands of dollars on leads with very little success after months of effort?

They run out of money. They get burned out and then . . .

They give up and quit.

Another important point contributing to why most network marketers fail is the type of leads they purchase.

Why does the type of leads network marketers buy make a difference?

Well . . .

Business opportunity leads, the leads most new network marketers are told to use, are generic. These leads answer an ad that just asks them if they want to be financially free or make money from home or something like that.

Well . . . of course they do!

But that doesn’t mean they want anything to do with YOUR network marketing program.

When the average network marketer calls these generic business opportunity leads the leads don’t know anything about the network marketer’s business and for the most part honestly don’t care.

What happens is the new network marketer hears a lot of “NOs” and “why are you calling me?”

Hearing NO all the time leads to self doubt, both about the network marketer’s own ability and the validity of their association with their network marketing company.

Negative feelings begin to fester and as I said before eventually the network marketer gives up and throws in the towel, usually within 3-6 months.

The fledgling network marketer’s perception of their business goes from one of  excited opportunity to one of complete doubt and constant negativity.

Reality follows perception, so because the new network marketer believes that there is little hope for their company or themselves,  this becomes TRUE.

That’s basically why 95% of network marketers fail if you asked me.

Attraction Marketing Instead of Pestering Friends and Family

A beautiful young college student writing on a notebook outdoorNetwork Marketing, also know  as MLM for Multi-Level Marketing, has gotten a ‘black eye’ as an industry because of the traditional way we have been marketing.

Here is the problem. We get introduced to network marketing by a friend and we just go bananas with excitement. Why? We’ve seen the circles drawn on a white board and our downline has already grown to thousands of people in our own imagination.

We simply can’t understand why EVERYONE won’t get just as excited as we are.  Our approach to people is rather obnoxious. We are in their face with our products and opportunity.  We call up our best friend and say “Charlie, I’ve got something real exciting that you are simply going to love! I’ll be right over.” Charlie already has his guard up, because he senses he is about to be sold.

Since Charlie said “NO” to me, I decide to try harder with my next prospect.  The problem gets even worse when we start leaving behind a trail of friends and family, because they said no to an opportunity — but we think they said no to us. We take it personally.  We are quickly becoming a member of the NFL Club – No Friends Left.

The other major problem we face as a new MLM-er is we run out of money before we are able to build our vast empire.  How can this be?

There is an industry wide statistic that says it all:  A new network marketer on your team has 62 days to start turning a profit. In other words,  making more money than is going out.  What happens after 62 days? They quit – unless you have taught them a system that shows them how to make money and find new people to fill their prospecting funnel. If you can do this inside of the now famous 62 days, you will have a successful and growing team because of one thing – real duplication.

This is the whole idea behind Attraction Marketing. Instead of bothering and pestering people, you “attract” them to you.  This is quite a shift in our thinking, because we are so used to prospecting with a hammer.

Attraction Marketing really is all about marketing to only the people that are attracted to our message. And our message is “Build a Big Fat monthly income with thousands of people in your downline, and do it without pestering your family and friends.”  We are looking ONLY for other network marketers and MLM wanabees.

Attraction Marketing also is about funding your prospecting efforts. We use what is called a “funded proposal” which is fancy talk for making money off your prospect even if she doesn’t join your primary business. The money we make keeps paying for our continued prospecting. Think about how “smart” this really is!
