Success in Network Marketing is Simply a Numbers Game

If you were promised $1,000,000, without a shadow of a doubt, that it would be all yours – if you picked up the phone and called 10,000 people in the next year, and told them about a business opportunity – would you do it?

This is equal to calling 28 people per day, every single day, for one year. I think that there are a number of people who would jump at this chance. They would definitely be tested, because calling 28 people is easy to do — But calling another 28 people is easy not to do.

What is interesting to me, and I have no proof, but the business that you would generate after just 6 months of calling 28 people day in and day out – would probably be more than $1 Million dollars. Here’s why:

You would start getting good at talking to people. Your “closing” average would keep rising, as your confidence grew stronger. You would get more and more excited as you saw bigger and bigger results from your efforts. After a while, you might even want to call 50 people per day – or 100!

Network marketing, like any type of sales, is simply a numbers game. The more people you eventually impact with your message and showing you care for them, the more money you will start making. It is really as simple as that.

So why do so many people fail at network marketing? I think part of it is due to the fact that people refuse to leave their comfort zone. If they do leave it temporarily, and they get criticized or suffer rejection, they scurry back to safety in their mediocrity laden comfort zone.

But I think a bigger reason why 95% of people fail, they don’t have a clear-cut plan laid out for them as to how many people they need to contact, or some other clearly defined avenue that they can drive down without getting lost.

There are so many ways to make this a “numbers” game.  Maybe this will make it easier to understand. Here aresome examples:

  • Create a blog about Network Marketing and do a new blog post every day. Your new post needs to be relevant and hopefully educational, entertaining or enlightening.
  • Build lead generating landing pages with good email Aweber autoresponder follow-up.  Use split testing to optimize your landing page and split test how you are driving traffic to your Landing Page.
  • Forum marketing – helping out with great informative posts, and having your signature file point to your landing page URL or your blog.
  • Facebook advertising – many different ways to do this. But your end result is getting people inside your “sales funnel”.
  • PPC – Pay Per Click Google, Bing, and Yahoo advertising. I wouldn’t attempt this without a very clear understanding of Perry Marshall”s Definitive Guide to Google Adwords.  He teaches Split-Testing as a science.  I have this e-book of his, and he is by far the BEST there is in teaching PPC.
  • Video Marketing – shooting a Flip Video each day or doing a Screen Capture video of a “how to” strategy.  You will need to add your video to some written source, like a blog post, or a Squidoo lens. Be sure and submit your video to more than just You-Tube. You can use a free service like PixlePipe to submit your video to about 15 different sites. If you want a full blown video submitter, you might want to check out Traffic Geyser.
  • Article Marketing – writing a good compelling article each day and submitting it to the various article directories – especially Ezine If you want to know how to submit your article to 150 article directories at once,  I use Automatic Article Submitter. It does a great job.
  • The traditional method of calling people – usually after you run out of your warm market, you end up buying lead lists.

The whole end goal of all of these different “numbers game” methods is to lead all of these prospect into your sales funnel.  The very best sales funnel I know of is My Lead System Pro. This  whole system is already in place with incredible resources and training.  You can learn every single one of these “numbers game” methods and a few more, inside My Lead System Pro.

Getting back to the opening scenario – $1 Million for 10,000 calls – take this same logic and apply it to the methods indicated above. In other words you may not know how many blog posts you need to do to earn a lot of money – but if you did at least one new post every day – I think after a year your blog would be really ROCKING! A new video every day for a year? Wow! A new article every day for a year? I think you get the picture. A year goes by pretty quick.

Just imagine what your network marketing business would be like if you just picked ONE of the methods listed above, and did it faithfully every day for the next year. Is this easy to do every day? Not necessarily. Is this easy not to do? Most definitely. This will take commitment and persistence. But what will the pay-off be like? WOW! You won’t know unless you try.

Are you up for the challenge?

Why Did You Join Your MLM Business? So You Could Fail?

I was thinking today about all the people who are so anti-network marketing. They have an attitude against the whole industry. But I doubt seriously if they even know one small clue about what the MLM industry is all about.

Network marketing offers anybody a chance. It doesn’t matter what your background was like – whether you were born on the “other side” of the tracks, or were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Everybody has the same opportunity – the same chance to succeed or fail.

One of the big reasons that people quit or fail, is they don’t remember or keep in focus WHY they joined their Network Marketing business in the first place. Usually they have reasons like these:

  • Freedom from a job they hate
  • Wanting financial security, because their job isn’t providing this
  • Desiring to live life to the fullest – and have the funds to do so
  • Spend more time with my kids, spouse, parents, etc.
  • Get me out of the financial straights and debt that is drowning me
  • Satisfaction of calling my own shots, and being a winner
  • I want to be a millionaire by the time I’m 30./
  • I want to look myself in the mirror and smile, knowing I proved them all wrong.

Why did you join the ranks of the wanna-be-wealthy people – using MLM as your ticket? What was going through your brain and emotions when you realized you didn’t have to follow the loser path of all your loser friends and negative family?

One of the reasons people quit their MLM business is because there is a disconnect between what they really want from the business (why they joined in the first place) and the daily work involved that is required to build a successful business. You will be very inspired and be more motivated to excel in your business if you remind yourself every day why you initially made the decision to become involved.

What is your motivation? What kind of dreams will your business make possible? Whose lives will you be impacting and contributing to with your success? What is the vision you carry with you? How will your network marketing business impact your very life? What big plans are you seeking to accomplish?

To keep reminding yourself of these dreams, and staying connected with them takes commitment. Doing the daily activities to see your dreams become a reality takes commitment also. You will build habits that will make the difference between being just a dreamer or wishful thinker – and someone whose dreams come true because you take consistent and deliberate action.

How long do you keep on “keeping on”?  There is a sad truth that has shown consistently how many people quit right before they would have won. In other words, they do all this work, and success is right around the corner. But discouragement steps in and they quit. I suggest that you give your network marketing business at least a year. And make sure you have a good system you are tapped into, like My Lead System Pro.  Without a good system to show you how you can generate leads every day that WANT your kind of business – you probably won’t last more than 2 months in network marketing.

You can be a winner. It is no accident that you are reading this blog post. Get connected with my Tribe – on the right of this page. Get going with My Lead System Pro. Get connected with all the training inside My Lead System Pro, and you won’t know yourself in 3 months.  And don’t forget to remind yourself daily of your big WHY.

How “Get Rich Quick” Thinking Sabotoges Your Business

I have a growing business where I assist offline businesses (think: brick and mortar) get an online presence that really kicks butt and gives them a great “edge” over their competition.

One of the big hurdles that I have to overcome is the general underlying feeling that if you have a website it should somehow be “instant profit” or at least a lot more “instant” than growing a regular offline business.

Most offline businesses don’t make a good profit for 2 to 3 years, sometimes many more years. This is considered “normal.” But when you pay $2000 to $10,000 or more for a fancy website, you expect it to start pulling in those customers and those dollars pretty quickly.

There is a disconnect in expectations online. It just doesn’t work that way. In fact if nothing is done to optimize a website and nothing is put in place to start attracting traffic and building a sales funnel, their website could sit for 20 years and never make them a dime.

This same “instant gratification” mentality is very prevalent in the Internet Marketing and Network Marketing mindset. For some reason, getting rich quick is the prevailing expectation, and when this doesn’t happen, people quit and jump into another business that is more promising. They just start the same unrealistic game over and over again.

What is disgusting is how the Gurus with the non-stop product launches use the “get rich quick” strategy to sell their products. And they sell a ton of them because of it. The copy writing is very skilled and polished, and is sucks a lot of hungry people in to latch on to yet another Shiny Object.

What can you do to keep this unreal “get rich quick” expectation from sabotaging your online business?

1)Quit buying any more money making programs. You already know enough. If you don’t, hang out in the Warrior forum and you will learn a lot there.

2) Plan on your online success taking about the same time as an offline business would take.

3) Don’t quit, and don’t jump from ship to ship. Stay your course and map out a definite plan as to where you will be every 3 months. If you can see progress, and see more leads being generated, this brings a lot of excitement. Keep doing more of the same.

4) Re-evaluate your plan, based on how well it is working or isn’t working. Change it if you need to, and commit again to working your plan.

Remember, Napoleon’s classic work is entitled “Think and Grow Rich.” There is not one bit of “get rich quick” thinking to be found in this great book.

What Little League Baseball Taught Me About Business

I absolutely love sports, and especially baseball. I owe this to my grandmother who was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. Every summer when we would come visit her, she would take all of us to a Cubs game.

My son is almost 12 years old, and he is in his 2nd year of what is known in Little League circles as the “Majors” – which is 11 and 12 year old boys. This is a huge step up from the 9 and 10 year olds. The pitching is much faster, the balls are thrown faster, the hitting is harder – everything is definitely more like “real” baseball.

We just started practice a week ago, and yesterday we had a cold windy practice at 11:00 am. The fathers help out hitting grounders, throwing pitches, and doing anything else that is needed. Yesterday, one of the fathers, John, started pitching, to give each player a good number of practice hits.

He pitched for a while, then asked Chad to help out. So Chad pitched for a while and both John and Chad were getting real frustrated because their pitching wasn’t very good. You need to try to get the ball over the plate. So Chad said – “come on Stephen, it’s your turn!”

I don’t usually get asked to pitch. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I’m 20 years older than the other fathers. Anyway, I went out to the mound, and you wouldn’t believe the negative stuff that was going through my head. “What part of me is going to hurt for the next week? What if I throw my _____ out? What if I make a fool of myself?

So I started to throw a few balls, and I was feeling great! Then I realized what my mind and subconscious was doing to cause my limiting beliefs to try and de-rail me. It is really awesome what happened next.

I actually took the stance of a major league pitcher. I started going through the same motions, pull my arm back, lift my left leg and point that leg and arm right at the strike zone as I “hurled” the ball. HA! I ended up having a great time and I quit all my worrying. I’m actually in real good shape for being 61 years old.

I started thinking about how our limiting beliefs stop us from being who we want to be and what we need to do in our businesses. These usually stem from our past failures. I encourage you to be aware when your thoughts go into “I can’t” mode. Recognizing this is a huge part of the battle to overcome our limiting beliefs.

The next important step is to take immediate action – marching right against the fear that is holding you back. Afraid to make that call? Pick up the phone right now. Don’t think you can make that video? Grab your Flip video camera and hit the red record button.

What is incredible – the more you kick fear or negative believing right in the face – the easier it becomes. And you start feeling so much more confident. This confidence spills over into every area of your life.

Let me know what ghosts of your past you are battling. Let me know what you are doing about it. Share your victories. Share your defeats. We all can learn from each other.

Magical Copywriting Tips, Secrets & Resources

Cover of "The Adweek Copywriting Handbook...
Cover via Amazon

(Click Here, Gary Halbert, To view the 1st of this series of 3 articles.)

I recently watched Mike Dillard’s (Magnetic Sponsoring) 18 minute video, and one of the greatest pieces of advice he gave was to pick ONE method of marketing and leave all the rest behind, for now. Work on this one marketing skill until you become an expert at it.

But the other thing he said was, along with this one skill, you need to learn copy writing. With a good knowledge and skill of copywriting, you can pretty much make money anywhere you go. If it isn’t writing for your own sale campaigns, you can hire your skill out, and command a great price.

In this part of my copywriting secrets teaching, I want to show you who I have learned from and give you some resources so you can quickly find books and courses that will be a big help to you. Copywriting can be learned. It doesn’t happen overnight, but as you stay consistent in your study AND writing, you will get better.

The first person I have a lot of respect for as a copywriter is Dan Kennedy. He has influenced a lot of people with his teachings.  He has two best selling books that are definitely worth getting – The Ultimate Sales Letter  & The Ultimate Marketing Plan. Dan Kennedy also has “Dan Kennedy’s Copywriting Seminar In-A-Box” which is 28 CD’s and a whole bunch of printed examples of what to do and what not to do. I got my copy of this on Ebay. You might find it there too.

John Carlton is the next copywriter I have learned a lot from. The course I have from him is called “Kick-Ass Copywriting Secrets of a Marketing Rebel.” This is 4 CD’s and about 200 pages of pure gold. He has a great sense of humor, often right in your face. He tells it like it is. I learned from him how the big Ad Agencies don’t know a hill of beans about response marketing. They milk the big corporations of billions of dollars in building their “brand”.

Joe Sugarman is another great copywriter. I have a book of his, “The Adweek Copywriting Handbook” which is 338 pages of incredible learning. He has about 40 chapters, each one showing a different style of targeting your audience and how to do it. The sub-title to this book is “The Ultimate Guide to Writing Powerful Advertising and Markting Copy from One of America’s Top Copywriters.”

Copywriting is, in a lot of ways, all about the psychological influence that your writing will have on people – to take action. That’s why copywriting is so powerful. A book that anyone in copywriting for long hears about is Robert B. Cialdini, Ph.D.’s book “Influence – The Psychology of Persuasion.” He shows that there are six very powerful influences that will cause people to take action, either positively or negatively. These six influences are:

1) Reciprocation  2) Commitment & Consistency  3) Social Proof  4) Liking  5) Authority  and  6) Scarcity. He spends a whole chapter on each one of these psychological influences. Very interesting!

Gary Halbert is who I talked about in my last copywriting article. I don’t have any of his courses or books, but I have a growing swipe file from his massive amount of articles and videos online. One thing you’ll notice, each copywriter I have mentioned has a very outgoing, almost “in your face” personality. Not all of them, but definitely John Carlton and Gary Halbert. And Dan Kennedy can get that way once in a while! I think this stems from the fact that to be a good copywriter you have to have a very wide range of life experiences.  You could never be a good copywriter if you never leave home and are afraid of your own shadow.

The last copywriter I will talk about in this article is Brian Keith Voiles. He has an awesome 6 – CD course (and 1 DVD)  with a large printed 3-ring binder, called “Advertising Magic! The Complete Guide To Creating Hot Ads & Sales Letters That Work!” I found this on Ebay also.  What’s neat is every copywriter is so different. Being experts at selling, they are experts at selling their own products. I don’t regret at all the fact that I have spent a bit of money on copywiting books and programs.

There are others that I haven’t mentioned, that are great copywriters too. If you can get any of these guys on video, that would be a real treat.

Be on the look-out for my 3rd article on copywriting – some good practical tips and templates that you can use to quickly put together some great “pulling” articles.

Scorching Copywriting Secrets of Gary Halbert

Copywriting is an art, and not so much a science. Yes there are people, mostly psychologists, who have taken copywriting to a different level that is more scientific. This, in itself is fascinating. If you want to learn from one of the all time experts in this area, Glenn Livingston is a master at pyschological selling and copywriting techniques. I spent 6 months learning his methods and coming from a true pyschologist, it was hot!

If you heard Mike Dillard’s webinar a few nights ago, he stated a few times about the importance of becoming a good copywriter. Many people don’t know where to start, or even what copywriting means. So I decided to do a few teachings on some of the most important points, and point you in the direction of how to learn a lot more.

Copywriting is the art of grabbing someone’s attention, and then holding their attention long enough to cause an emotional shift towards your product or service, and then making them an offer that they cannot refuse. If you have been into internet marketing for even a month or two, you have seen a number of these “sales letters” – some of them being 25 pages long. I have a collection of sales letters, and it is very interesting to spend time analyzing them – especially if you got “sucked in” and you pulled out your credit card and you bought!

In the video, I show you a simple exercise you can do to quickly increase your copywriting skills. Will you do the exercise? Probably not. Why? Only about 3 to 5% of people ever get focused enough to follow through on one thing long enough to make them a profit. I love the book, The Slight Edge. Is doing this exercise easy to do? Yes it is. Is it easy not to do it? Yes it is.

This exercise is swiping a Gary Halbert Letter, and printing it out, and then HAND WRITING a copy of the letter on lined paper. It takes a while, and if you haven’t written long hand in a while, it hurts. But you’ll quickly build up your hand muscles. And your copywriting skills will start increasing. Sounds crazy? Well a great copywriter told me about this a few years ago. It gets your mind and eyes and hand all in action. Just the process of handwriting will drill those Gary Halbert lines into your brain. You will start to pick up on little things that make a big difference.

The next tip is to just start writing – a lot. Your blog is a great place to start. Try to do one post each day. I know this is a lot of work. Commit to at least 4 posts per week. You will start becoming a better copywriter in no time.

Stay tuned. I will do at least 2 more blog posts about copywriting.

Your Approach to Your Business – Are you a Part-Timer or a Some-Timer?

StephenBolinNetwork marketing is an interesting business to keep an eye on. You see different trends, and different “approaches ” in prospecting. But after a while there is not much new stuff being introduced. It is still a people business, and it will always be a people business.

One of the first things a new recruit starts asking questions about is “how do I approach my family? How do I approach my friends? How do I approach my neighbors? They want to know exactly what to say, and if you have some good scripts that they can learn, they get really excited.

This is all dandy and good, except the rejection keeps coming, and the new recruit starts wondering if he is cut out for this. He also thinks it may be just the company or the product that people don’t like. She almost never stops and thinks the problem might be between her own two ears.

So instead of concentrating on your approach to your neighbors, family and friends, what about your approach to your business? Say what? Yes, what is your approach to your own business? I’ll tell you how most network marketers approach their business – as a “some-timer” or a “part-timer” or a “just checking it out-timer” or an “if I make $1000 in the first week – timer -I’ll stick around.” Your approach to your business means everything. It means whether or not you will succeed in network marketing.

Here’s what’s happening. As you go out to prospect, and you open your mouth and stutter and tell them you’re new and just got in, they smile and are thinking – “I sure as heck don’t want to do that myself!”. Even if your “approach” is professional and smooth, your prospect can read between the lines – “he’s nothing but a “some-timer” – why should I bother following him?” You may be fooling yourself, but if you aren’t totally committed to your business, your prospects will pick up on this every single time.

I wrote another blog post about this – the 3 Stages of Belief.  You will be as successful in network marketing as you are passionate about your business, and work at it full-time – at least in your thinking. For many people, this realization happens all at once, and suddenly you no longer have any fear of picking up that 30 lb phone. I don’t know what will trigger this for you. But it can happen in an instance. I believe it happens because you are preparing yourself for your future, and you finally see yourself exactly like you are, and you say – “I am better than that! I’m not going to allow my limiting beliefs to hold me back anymore! Get out of my way! Here I come!”

Does Your Headline Suck? or Does it Grab Your Attention?

When writing articles, blog posts and “commercial” email messages, your headline will determine whether or not your message even gets opened. If you have a dead, boring headline, your message will be ignored.

One way to start getting a feeling for good headlines is to pay attention to the emails you get, the blog posts that grab your attention and newspaper articles that attract you. With email, I encourage you to start a “swipe file” on your computer, where you copy and paste the email into a special folder. After a few months you will have a nice and growing source of great headlines.

Another way to learn about headlines – what works and what doesn’t –  is to join Viral Url or Viral Hosts. You will be getting a LOT of emails from people wanting to sell you something, just like you can send emails to them. (Make sure and sign up with a “junk” email account.) Don’t just delete all these emails. Scan them and see what “jumps out” at you. Again, save these to your swipe file. Viral Hosts and Viral URL is a gold mine of headlines -including the body of the message.

You will start getting a better feel about what “grabs” you as far as headlines for your articles. It becomes fun to learn about this and even more fun when you see your articles getting more and more exposure.

In the video, I show you an awesome book I use to help me with headlines and also it helps me with domain names.

PixelPipe – Free Video Uploader to 15+ Video Sites

Image representing Pixelpipe as depicted in Cr...
Image via CrunchBase

I discovered a real nifty free video uploader about 2 months ago. I belong to Social Media Science’s Synnd membership, and they are coming out with a super video uploader with commenting and voting, but until that happens, I am real happy with PixelPipe.

For those of you spending $97 or more per month on Traffic Geyser, Pixelpipe doesn’t do what TG does, but at least it does a very nice job for no cash outlay. One of the most important things for video marketing is getting your videos up on the web as quickly as possible. When I had a Traffic Geyser membership, it was nice, but it took me a lot longer to configure a video than it does in Pixelpipe.

One of the neatest provisions of Pixelpipe is an awesome Firefox plugin that lets you easily drag and drop a video into the plugin and within 3 minutes you are hitting the upload button.

I am really into video right now being on my 7th video of the 90 day video challenge. I need all the speed I can get with uploading videos, so PixelPipe is coming in real handy. Check out my video below. I am using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 – and my effects are a little rough, but they will start looking better and better.

Here’s a few interesting articles about Video Uploads:
